“Quasi-Experimental Design and Methods in Impact Evaluation”

While RCT is deemed to be the gold-standard in performing an impact evaluation of a program, it has some strong conditions that must be met, such as availability of measurable counterfactual, random selection of treatment and control, and sufficient number of samples to achieve a good statistical power. The conditions have led to a common understanding that RCT is expensive and time consuming.

In the case where RCT is not affordable, quasi-experimental methods may be done to assess the effectiveness of program. This pre-conference workshop will provide participants with hands-on experience in doing quasi-experimental methods using available data. The workshop will discuss Instrumental Variable (IV) Regression, Propensity Score Matching (PSM), and Regression Discontinuity Design (RDD). At the end of the session, we will share TNP2K experience in using the methods in evaluation various poverty alleviation programs in Indonesia.

Workshop class is limited up to 20 participants. Participants are expected to have econometrics background and some direct exposure/experience with STATA. Please register as soon as possible.
